Design and Installation of a Weather Station and Sensor
System in Apple and Peach Orchards
SST designed, installed, and configured a complete weather station and sensor system in the village of Garneti, within a 23-hectare apple and peach orchard.
The apple orchard is fully covered with anti-hail nets, which creates distinct microclimatic conditions and, consequently, a specific environment for the development of diseases. Taking these differences into account, two independent disease monitoring modules were installed - one in the apple orchard and one in the peach orchard.
the following sensor systems were installed in the peach orchard:
-
Weather station: μMETOS® ET0-DISEASE-LORA*;
-
Soil moisture sensors (tensiometers);
-
Leaf wetness sensor.
The sensor systems that have been installed in the intensive apple orchard include:
-
LORAIN DISEASE "LORA"*;
-
Soil moisture sensors (tensiometers);
-
Leaf wetness sensor.
With the help of these sensor systems, the farmer receives detailed information on soil and climatic conditions, weather forecasts, and irrigation management. Additionally, the system enables in-depth disease monitoring: 7 key diseases for peaches and 8 key diseases for apples.
*Technological solution:
Due to the lack of continuous mobile coverage - caused by interference from security services because of the orchard’s proximity to the occupation line — LoRa technology was chosen for data transmission.
